27 May – 3 June
Be Brave. Make Change
National Reconciliation Week has been observed in Australia since 1996 and it is a time for all Australians to reflect on how Australians of all backgrounds have contributed to Australia’s history, culture and achievements and to explore ways in which each of us can authentically participate and contribute to achieving meaningful reconciliation in Australia.
Preceded by National Sorry Day on May 26, National Reconciliation Week is framed by two significant in the reconciliation journey and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s history — the successful 1967 Referendum (26 May 1967) and the High Court Mabo decision (3 June 1992).
The National Reconciliation Week 2022 theme, Be Brave. Make Change., challenges all Australians to be courageous in their endeavours to make transformational changes where they live, work, play and socialise towards an Australian society that is reconciled and at peace with its history.
We all have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.
